For many living in Secaria magic is, and always has been, a part of everyday life. The Goddess granted magic to those able to wield it and the Kingdom of Secaria rose to become the dominant power of the region. Few could contend against the Kings and Queens and their armies. The Battle Mages wielding witchcraft in stride with steel. Indeed, Secaria and Magic are almost one and the same...or at least they were. One hundred years ago, the Two Hundred and Ninety-Eighth King of Secaria was found dead in his bedchamber. The old king was dead, the cause? Magic. Many suspected murder, and many more blamed his personal Sorceress. The kingdom erupted in rage at the death of their beloved ruler, and after the Sorceress was tried and hung, the Noble houses retaliated. For ten long years the two factions shed each others blood. The Common folk stating that magic was too dangerous and that Mages held too much power, The Noble Bloodlines claiming that their magic was their divine right to rule over and protect the lesser men of the world.
For ten years the world burned, though the Noble Houses were strong in the arcane arts...their lines had been falling to ruin over the past years. Fewer and fewer children possessed the Gift, and of those few even less could wield it as the great Mages of old. The Commoners were weaker, but more numerous. Years of oppression and jealousy led to their greatest weapon. Like any beast a mage could be captured, and when captured...it could be tamed. When they discovered a way to chain mages to their will, to use their magic against their brethren....the war ended.
In exchange for their lives the Arcane houses surrendered their noble status, giving birth to a new class of Magic-less houses. But The Kingdom of Secaria and Magic were inseparable...only a fool would state otherwise. The Battle mages still needed to fight in the new King's wars. The new Nobles would need their own sorcerers to detect poisons, traps, and defend them should any of their many enemies, foreign or domestic, attempt anything. But the Common folk had learned from the past, they knew that any mage could be treacherous, and mage could turn on their master and kill them with ease. So, a pact was formed. Any child born with the Gift was property of the King or Queen and every Noble household would contribute one child of their own line to serve as a Keeper.
The deal was struck, the very same technology that bound a mage was used to control them yet again. A mage can do only so much as his or her Keeper orders or allows them to do, but at a terrible cost. After the Pact is formed one cannot survive without the other. The death of one means the death of the other.
You are one of these pairings, whether you be the last of a dwindling line of mages or their Keeper, making sure they never forget or stray from the will of the King. Together you two will be sent on missions, take part in grand battles, get caught up in the intrigues of Secaria and the wider world as a whole. Just remember, neither of you can survive without the other, so do your best to keep that filthy mage alive, alright?
Alright! I kinda had this idea for a while now and i figured it would be a fun little thing to try out. I'd like to leave the relationships between the Keeper and Mage as very much up to each pairing, some of you may be friends or maybe more (wink wink), or a Keeper may keep his or her mage on an incredibly short leash, treating them as little more than a weapon or tool. Keepers are specially equipped to combat Mages, though your real power comes from using your Mage and abilities in tandem.
I shall allow anyone to create their own character using whatever character sheet they wish, as long as you include the following:
Name
Age
Gender
Keeper or Mage
Specialty
(I shall mention that what an individual Mage or Keeper can do is highly dependent upon bloodline and training respectively. So, if you come from a long line of Fire Mages that will be your specialty, and if you trained on learning how to counter magic with special weaponry/martial arts/gadgets etc. that will be your specialty as a Keeper. I will let you know if I think any particular power or gadget or whatever is op and needs to be changed.)
Backstory: A Brief backstory explaining lineage, history and the like
You may add whatever you like to this, or add nothing. All up to you guys! I know it's kinda slow around here but I'm hoping maybe some more RP's will kick it back to life!
